Cleaning and Restoration
At JHVinylShop, each record is handled with care before being listed, packaged, and shipped. The goal is to improve presentation and playback whenever possible while preserving the originality of the record and its included materials.
Initial Inspection
When an album is received, its current condition is assessed and important observations are documented. This may include visible wear, sleeve condition, inserts, labels, matrix/runout details, shrink wrap, stickers, and other collector-relevant features.
Record Cleaning Process
1. Initial dry wipe
Loose surface dust is gently removed with a dry cloth.
2. Manual Spin Clean
Larger debris and surface contamination are removed by hand.
3. Ultrasonic cleaning
The record is cleaned more deeply through the grooves.
4. Rinse
The record is rinsed after cleaning.
5. Microfiber dry
The record is carefully dried with microfiber.
6. Air dry
The record is allowed to fully air dry before sleeving.
What Cleaning Cannot Fix:
Cleaning removes dust, debris, fingerprints, residue, and contaminants. Cleaning cannot repair groove wear, scratches, pressing defects, warps, heat damage, or other permanent physical defects. Records are graded and described according to their actual condition after cleaning.
Cover & Jacket Care
The album cover receives a light wipe with a microfiber cloth to collect dust and remove surface mess when appropriate. Care is taken not to over-clean, damage, or alter original materials.
Final Packaging
Each album is packaged with all original materials related to the record. When prepared for sale, the record is also supplied with a new paper inner sleeve and a new poly outer sleeve.
The record is packaged outside of the cover to help prevent seam splits during transit. This process is designed to give each record a clean, protected, and professional presentation while maintaining transparency about the item’s actual condition.
